The mundane task of turning on the lights generally involves a simple flick of the switch, but Norwegian designer Stian Korntved Ruud thinks it could get a lot more interesting.
Korntved Ruud, who graduated last year with a master's in industrial design from the Oslo School of Architecture and Design, created "Circuit breaker," a series of five switches that force users to interact with the panel and thus present new ways of turning the lights on.
Each switch features a different trigger to turn on a connected light, such as inserting a coin into a slot, lining up magnetic balls, drawing a line between two points, or hanging an object on a hook. Several of these panels require an Arduino board to function correctly, making them a true high-tech toggle.
No definitive plans exist yet for commercial availability of these exotic switches, but we wouldn't doubt that a force like Kickstarter or some other crowd-funding venture could quickly illuminate this neat home accessory for the mainstream. Check out Korntved Ruud's other creations at his portfolio Web site.
